OpenAI announced an agreement on November 4 to acquire Pierre Computer Company, the developer of Code Storage and open-source developer components including Trees and Diffs. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the acquisition remains subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
OpenAI says it already uses some Pierre libraries in the Codex app to navigate files and review code changes. The deal reflects a broader shift in software engineering: AI coding agents can now work on multiple branches and tasks simultaneously, making source control, review tools and coordination more important.
OpenAI said Pierre's open-source projects would remain open source and that Code Storage customers could continue using the service after the acquisition closes. The companies remain separate until completion.
