Balaji Srinivasan’s Network School Seeks Funding at a $2B Valuation

Network School, the education and technology-community project founded by former Coinbase CTO Balaji Srinivasan, is raising capital at a valuation of $2 billion. A Kazakhstan government announcement says Polychain Capital is leading the round, with Andreessen Horowitz, Coinbase and Srinivasan also involved. The amount being raised was not specified in that announcement.

The $2 billion figure refers to the project’s valuation, not $2 billion in cash raised. That is a substantial difference: a company can be valued at billions of dollars while collecting a comparatively small amount of new equity financing.

Network School combines education, entrepreneur networks and physical community infrastructure. Kazakhstan has promoted the project as part of an effort to attract founders and technology investment, with plans connecting the initiative to Astana. The strategy is unusual because the product is not simply a software platform or a university course. It depends on physical operations, member participation and sustained demand for a specific style of technology community.

The financing places a sizable market value on that model before its long-term economics are clear. Important unanswered questions include enrollment, revenue per member, operating costs, property exposure and how the project plans to expand without diluting the experience that draws people to it.
