VEIR Raises $110M to Bring Superconducting Power Cables to AI Data Centers

VEIR has closed a $110 million Series C round to commercialize superconducting power-delivery systems for AI data centers. Matter Venture Partners and Tyche Partners co-led the financing. The round brings the company’s total capital raised to $225 million.

Data centers increasingly need to move large amounts of electricity through constrained spaces. Traditional copper conductors generate resistive losses and require room for installation and cooling. VEIR is developing systems based on high-temperature superconductors that can carry greater electrical loads in a compact form, although the technology introduces its own cooling, engineering and cost requirements.

The company plans to use the financing to expand manufacturing, refine its products and build the commercial organization needed for deployment. That is a shift from demonstrating that a technology can work to delivering equipment that a major customer can buy, install and maintain.

The commercial case depends on total system economics, not simply cable capacity. Data-center operators will weigh electrical losses, installation requirements, reliability, service needs and lifetime costs. VEIR’s opportunity is tied to a growing bottleneck in AI infrastructure, but winning enterprise-scale deployments will require proving that superconducting systems are practical outside controlled demonstrations.
