Lafayette, California-based Torch Systems has secured $11.5 million in total funding to expand its outdoor asset intelligence technology across critical infrastructure networks. The round pairs equity financing with venture debt to help utilities, municipal bodies, and energy managers supervise remote assets in real time.
The financing package comprises $9.5 million in equity funding backed by Khosla Ventures, Abstract, Construct Capital, and Starship Ventures, alongside $2 million in venture debt provided by First Citizens Innovation Banking, formerly known as Silicon Valley Bank.
Autonomous Sensing at the Edge
Monitoring distributed physical assets has traditionally required costly installations, persistent power feeds, and dedicated network lines. Torch Systems targets these constraints through its TerraNode sensing unit, a compact, solar-powered device designed for rapid deployment without needing external power lines or local network connections.
Each TerraNode combines several sensing technologies with onboard edge artificial intelligence and wireless connectivity. By processing environmental information on the device itself, the hardware enables continuous data collection in remote outdoor regions where deploying legacy operational infrastructure is impractical.
Turning Raw Signals into Context
Field data captured by the sensors feeds directly into the Torch Intelligence Platform. The software translates raw signals into automated alerts, operational context, and actionable intelligence for renewable energy operators, municipal agencies, and public utilities.
The system addresses several operational use cases across distributed acreage, including early fire detection, equipment health diagnostics, physical security, vegetation encroachment, and broader environmental monitoring. By linking local edge devices to centralized analysis, operators can track emerging hazards across widespread territories before critical disruptions occur.
Scaling Hardware and Field Teams
Torch Systems will allocate the fresh capital toward accelerating the manufacturing and deployment of TerraNode devices to meet customer demand. Expanding production capacity is central to the company's plan as it rolls out units across utility networks and outdoor facilities.
The company also plans to expand its go-to-market and field operations teams to support ongoing installations, while continuing engineering work on the Torch Intelligence Platform to adapt the technology to an expanding set of industrial and municipal use cases.
