Replicas Raises $4M to Give AI Coding Agents Their Own Cloud Computers

Replicas has raised $4 million in seed funding to build cloud infrastructure that allows autonomous coding agents to run software development tasks in dedicated computing environments.

The round included Y Combinator, Flex Capital, Founders' Co-op, Pioneer Fund and angel investors including Y Combinator co-founder Paul Graham and founders of Resend, Graphite and Privy.

Founded by Connor Loi, Replicas is developing a platform where AI agents can access codebases, run applications, use browsers, execute tests and work through engineering tasks without relying on a developer's local computer. Its infrastructure is designed to support different coding agents rather than require customers to use a specific AI model or development tool.

The company's thesis is that software engineering is moving toward workflows where individual developers coordinate multiple agents simultaneously. As these systems become more capable, each agent may need its own isolated machine with the dependencies, databases and tools required to complete an assignment.

Replicas says its customers have used almost seven million minutes of agent computing time and that agents have operated across more than one million workspaces. The figures are company-reported.

The next challenge is making these environments reliable and cost-effective as development teams move from supervising a handful of agents to running dozens or potentially hundreds in parallel.
