Outer Spaces Raises $8M to Put Solar Panels and Batteries Into Backyard Structures

Outer Spaces has launched with $8 million in pre-seed funding for outdoor structures that integrate solar generation and battery storage. Upfront Ventures led the financing, alongside Unlock Venture Partners, Mucker Capital and Genius Ventures. The company was created by entrepreneurs behind outdoor furniture brand Outer.

The first product concept combines a backyard pavilion with equipment intended to produce and store electricity. The approach treats residential energy hardware as part of a usable outdoor space rather than equipment installed separately from the home. The company expects initial availability in 2027.

The proposition sits at the intersection of consumer design and home electrification, two markets with very different purchasing behaviors. Buyers may like the idea of combining shade, outdoor use and energy generation, but price, installation work, permitting and compatibility with existing electrical systems will influence demand.

The $8 million round funds an early commercial experiment. For Outer Spaces to become more than a premium backyard product, its structures will need to deliver a compelling combination of appearance, utility and energy economics. The underlying question is whether integrating generation and storage into ordinary household products can create a market beyond conventional rooftop solar.
