Melius Raises $25M After Pivoting Toward AI Creative Production

Melius has disclosed $25 million in combined financing, including a $20 million Series A led by CRV and a $5 million seed round led by General Catalyst. The New York startup builds AI tools intended to help companies produce advertising assets, images and video with less manual production work.

The founders, former Ramp engineers, initially approached the market with a different performance-marketing product before changing direction. The pivot is relevant because generative AI has made creating individual images or clips easier, but businesses still struggle with the surrounding workflow: versioning, revisions, brand consistency and turning an idea into assets that can actually run in a campaign.

Melius is pursuing a product in which software agents carry out production steps in response to instructions, rather than forcing customers to master separate editing applications. That approach could be attractive to teams producing large volumes of content across markets and channels.

The company has said it passed $1 million in annualized revenue shortly after emerging from stealth. That is an early run-rate claim, not the same as a full year of recognized revenue. The next test is whether customers keep paying once initial experimentation turns into recurring production requirements.
