Albert Invent Raises $55M to Build AI Models for Chemistry Research

Albert Invent has raised $55 million in Series B funding to expand its artificial intelligence platform for chemistry and materials science research.

Albert Invent has raised $55 million in Series B funding to expand its artificial intelligence platform for chemistry and materials science research.

TCV led the round, with participation from Delta-v Capital, Socium Ventures, HighSage Ventures, Coral Capital and Legion VC. Existing investors including Coatue, J.P. Morgan Growth Equity Partners, Index Ventures and Applied Ventures also participated.

The Oakland-based company develops Albert OS, a platform that combines scientific data management, specialized AI models and automated research workflows. Its technology helps chemists search experimental records, identify promising material formulations and design experiments using data collected across laboratories.

Albert argues that general-purpose language models struggle with the precision required in chemistry, where small differences in molecular composition or experimental conditions can substantially change results. Its specialized Valence model reportedly achieved 45 times better accuracy than general-purpose AI systems on a scientific information-retrieval evaluation developed by the company.

Albert says the number of scientists using its platform has increased sixfold over the past year, with adoption spanning 44 countries. Its customers and partners include major chemical and materials companies.

The commercial question is whether these AI systems can consistently produce experimentally validated improvements in research productivity, rather than simply making existing scientific information easier to access.
